Skiing techniques 3 drills that work

Skiing is a thrilling and exhilarating sport, but it requires proper technique to ensure safety and enjoyment on the slopes.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skier, it's always a good idea to practice and refine your technique to improve your performance and reduce the risk of injury. Here are three ski technique drills that work to help you improve your skills on the mountain:

1

The stem Christie: The stem Christie is a great drill to practice balance and control on skis. To do this drill, start by standing on one ski with the other ski lifted off the ground. Slowly extend your lifted ski out to the side, then bring it back in and bend it at the knee so that your ski tips are touching.

From this position, push off with your inside edge and carve a turn. Practice this drill on both sides to work on your balance and control.

2

The pole plant: Proper pole planting is essential for maintaining balance and rhythm on the slopes. To practice this drill, hold your poles in front of you with your arms extended. As you ski down the mountain, plant your poles in the snow every few turns to help maintain your balance and control.

3

The hockey stop: The hockey stop is a great drill for practising quick and controlled stops on the slopes. To do this drill, start by skiing down the mountain at a moderate speed. When you're ready to stop, bend your knees and plant your poles in the snow.

Shift your weight onto your downhill ski and use your edges to carve a sharp turn. Practice this drill on both sides to improve your stopping skills.

By incorporating these drills into your skiing routine, you'll be well on your way to improving your technique and having more fun on the mountain.

Remember to take things at your own pace and always ski within your abilities to ensure safety and enjoyment on the slopes.
